In true Piers Morgan “foot-in-mouth” fashion, the Good Morning Britain anchor had plenty to say about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey —including accusing Meghan of lying about her mental health struggles. After guest co-host Alex Beresford applied some pressure to Piers’ scathing statements, Morgan stormed off the show. Shortly after, ITV announced Piers’s departure from the franchise in an official statement.
“Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”
Morgan’s explosive exit from the Good Morning franchise left people wondering if he quit or if he was fired considering the 41,000 complaints ITV received—including a formal one from Meghan—and an investigation from U.K. media regulator Ofcom over his controversial comments. Piers Morgan later took his talents to Twitter to reiterate his disbelief in Meghan’s claims.
On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview. I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions. pic.twitter.com/bv6zpz4Roe

“Good Morning Britain beat BBC Breakfast in the ratings yesterday for the first time. My work is done,” Piers said in a follow-up tweet.
