Meghan Markle & Prince Harry Spill The Royal Tea—Reveal Racism, Suicidal Thoughts & Lack of Security As Reasons for Leaving the U.K.
Monday, Mar 8, 2021

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry poured pipin’ hot royal tea during their much-anticipated interview with Oprah Winfrey and it did not disappoint!  During the tell-all, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed racism, Meghan’s mental health struggles, being cut off financially, and fear for their safety as reasons they “stepped back” from The Royal family and left the U.K.

According to Meghan and Prince Harry, the British tabloids’ barrage of salacious stories played a major role in their rift with The Royal Family—specifically the rumored spat between Meghan and sister-in-law Kate Middleton prior to Meghan’s wedding which reportedly left Kate in tears. Meghan clarified that “the reverse happened” despite tabloids painting her as the bully. But the most hurtful treatment didn’t come from the tabloids, but from The Royal Family who reportedly exhibited racism towards Meghan and their then-unborn baby, Archie.

“In the months when I was pregnant… we have in tandem the conversation of he won’t be given security, he’s not going to be given a title, and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born,” Meghan shared with Oprah.

Meghan and Harry declined to reveal who questioned the color of baby Archie’s skin as “that would be very damaging” to the Monarchy. Meghan also revealed The Royal Family refused to help her when she had a “clear and real and frightening thought” about suicide and didn’t “want to be alive anymore”—leaving her to seek support from a friend of the late Princess Diana.

Not only were Meghan’s mental health struggles left hanging in the balance, but also the physical safety of herself, Prince Harry, and baby as the institution would not provide security for them. Things got so bad that Prince Harry’s dad, Charles Prince of Wales, stopped taking his calls and The Royal family cut him off financially—leaving him to lean on his inheritance from his mom to relocate his family to the U.S.

On a lighter note, Meghan and Prince Harry are excited to welcome their 2nd child this summer, whom they confirmed with Oprah will be a baby girl. What did you think of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah? Tune in to see what royal tea our Dish Nation hosts spill!
