Nicki Minaj hosted last night’s Real Housewives of Potomac reunion and in true Queen fashion, she did not hold back when it came to Candiace Dillard’s song “Drive Back.”
Asking the hard questions as the RHOP reunion host, Nicki asked the girls to rate Candiace’s song on a “scale of one to 10” on how successful they thought the ballad would be. Mia Thorton quickly responded with a “negative two” to which Candiace responded by calling her a “hater.” However, Grand Dame” Karen Huger had Candiace’s back by rating it a nine, and then later a “five” within the context of it going platinum.
Nicki, who kept saying she liked the song, really turned up the heat when Candiace said the song was number 24 on the R&B Billboard Chart with over 500k streams and number four on iTunes.
“No, this is important,” Nicki said—asking “how long has it [Drive Back] been out?” When Candiace revealed the song had only been out for two months, Nicki served up a sneaky snicker which some definitely interpreted as shade.
Still not satisfied with Candiace’s explanation of the success of her song, Nicki asked that she sing on the spot since she used autotune in the original recording. “We need to hear some acapella child. Sing something acapella for us,” the Queen rapper demanded. Despite being put on the spot and awkwardly hesitating for a few minutes, Candiace belted a few tunes and received a round of applause from those on set.
