Four years after the infamous Fyre Festival fiasco, bamboozled ticket holders of the botched Bahamas-side festival are getting the big payout! The 277 concert-goers are slated to receive $7,220 each in the $2 million class-action settlement that reached the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York on Tuesday.
Billy McFarland—who’s currently serving six years in prison for wire fraud—and co-founder Ja Rule, who claimed he was unaware of the scam, came under fire when the 2017 luxurious musical getaway marketed as “the cultural experience of the decade” fell short of its promises, leaving thousands stranded on the Bahamian island Exuma. Ticket buyers paid anywhere from $1,000 to $12,000 to be in the number of the world’s most popular influencers such as Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid who helped promote the erroneous event.
A hearing for final approval of the settlement is scheduled for May 13th.
