Former The Bachelor star Colton Underwood, who’s best known for being a virgin on the series, is finally ready to walk in his truth. In an exclusive Good Morning America interview with Robin Roberts, The Bachelor alum came out as gay.
“I’ve ran from myself for a long time. I’ve hated myself for a long time,” Underwood told Roberts. “And I’m gay. And I came to terms with that earlier this year and have been processing it. And the next step in all of this was sort of letting people know.”

Like many during this pandemic, The Bachelor alum said 2020 gave him an opportunity to look in the mirror and “come to terms” with the truth he’s known since he was six years old. After running from himself, feeling like he’d rather die than come out due to his Catholic upbringing, and even praying the gay away, he shared that living in his truth has made him the “happiest and the healthiest” he’s ever been, and it has brought him closer to God.

The Bachelor star’s previous relationship with co-star Cassie Randolph crashed and burned post their time on season 23, with Randolph filing and later rescinding a restraining order against him for allegedly stalking her. Colton apologized to Cassie during the interview and admitted to “making a lot of bad choices”—explaining that his love for her “made it harder and more confusing” for him.
