T.I. and Tiny Harris sat down for a Red Table Talk to discuss the highly controversial statements he made regarding his 18-year-old Deyjah Harris’ virginity. What he referred to as “hymengate,” the rapper defended comments he made on the Ladies Like Us podcast where he admitted to attending his daughter’s gynecologist appointments to ensure her “hymen is still intact.” He explained that while he was acting out of concern as a “protective father” who is protecting his daughter from guys who would like to “defile and destroy” her, he made his comments in a “very joking manner” that was misconstrued, taken “extremely literal” and “sensationalized,” he dished to Jada Pinkett-Smith, Adrienne Banfield-Norris and Tiny. Although unaware at the time of his comments, he revealed that he is now aware of the sensitivity of the situation and apologized to his daughter and her mother, Ms. Niko.
“In the age or the time when our women, black women, are the most unprotected … disregarded women on the planet, I’m being criticized because I’m willing to go above and beyond to protect mine. And I’m talking about all of the little slimy, grimy, chubby-fingered little boys who just want to come and defile and destroy the sanctity that I have.”
