Salma Hayek is spillin’ some Hollywood tea! The Like A Boss actress says in her early days as an actor, Hollywood directors often overlooked her talents and encouraged her to dumb it down.
“Unfortunately, I never had a lot of chances to do parts where I could use a lot of the things I learned,” Salma told Total Film. “I’ve had directors say to me, ‘Dumber and faster. Sound dumber and speak faster!’”
As a previous telenovela star who spoke limited english and suffered from dyslexia, Salma finally got her big break in the ’90s with roles in Robert Rodriguez’s Desperado and Quentin Tarantino’s From Dusk Til Dawn. She was also nominated for two Emmys for her role as Sofia Reyes in Ugly Betty, and Golden Globe and Oscar noms for the 2002 film, Frida.
What do you think of Hollywood directors telling a young Salma to dumb it down?
