Not only is Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian committed to making the world a fair and just place for all, but he also wants to make it better for his two-year-old daughter, Olympia. In a sit-down interview for his wife Serena Williams’ new IGTV series ‘S’ stories, Alexis explained why he stepped down from the Reddit board and encouraged the position to be filled with a black candidate.
“I thought about what I could do beyond a social media post, beyond a donation,” Alexis explained. “We need diversity at the highest levels of business now more than ever,” he continued, adding that “once I realized why I needed to do it, it became very easy.”
Additionally, Alexis pledged to donate future Reddit stock gains to the black community “that has clearly suffered for far too long” and donated $1 million to Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights Camp. Ohanian clarified that his decision to step down from the Reddit board was solely his own, and not due to the rumors that Serena influenced him. He affirmed that he wanted to use his “power,” “influence,” and “privilege” to “do something meaningful to start to show a change. To make a better world for Olympia.”
