Mo’Nique said what she said!
During a recent interview on Bernie’s Daughter Podcast, hosted by the late Bernie Mac’s daughter Je’Niece McCullough, one of the Queens of Comedy, Mo’Nique, elaborated on why she calls her husband Sidney Hicks “Daddy.” It’s “because he’s raising me” the comedian shared—adding that her father stopped giving her what she needed at around 13 years old, which may explain why she looks to her husband for fatherly advice and guidance.
“My husband, my best friend, my brother, he’s had all these hats, and, a lot of black women would say, ‘Why do you call him Daddy?’ Because he’s raising me. He’s raising me,” she explained. “It was my husband that grew me up, and even at 55 years old, there are still times when he has to say, ‘C’mon, let’s talk,’ and I’m grateful for that.”
This isn’t the first time Mo’Nique has revealed and addressed calling her husband “Daddy.” #DishFam, is it still weird, or does her explanation make sense?
