Jada Pinkett-Smith and Oprah Winfrey are two of the many celebrities who are demanding justice for Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old EMT who was killed by the police during an execution of a no-knock warrant for a drug investigation. In a bold move, Jada, who attended a rally for Breonna at the Kentucky State Capitol in June, deleted all her previous photos on Instagram and replaced them with three images that span the text “Justice for Breonna Taylor” across all.
Oprah followed suit by unveiling the cover of September’s issue of O Magazine, which features an artistic image of Breonna Taylor with a quote that reads “If you turn a blind eye to racism, you become an accomplice to it.”
“I think about Breonna Taylor often. Imagine if three unidentified men burst into your home while you were sleeping. And your partner fired a gun to protect you. And then mayhem. What I know for sure: We can’t be silent. We have to use whatever megaphone we have to cry for justice. And that is why Breonna Taylor is on the cover of @oprahmagazine,” Oprah captioned the post.
Since Breonna Taylor’s death on March 13th, 2020, Kentucky FBI agents said they are working “urgently and expeditiously” to investigate “possible civil rights violations” by the Louisville police officers who opened fire in Breonna’s apartment, ABC news reports. Louisville banned the execution of no-knock warrants in June; however, there have been no arrests in Breonna’s case.
