A family that takes psychedelics together, stays together?
While speaking at a Psychedelic Science conference in Denver last week, Jaden Smith revealed his mom Jada Pinkett-Smith was the first person to introduce psychedelics to their family. Jaden said she used them solo “for a really, really long time,” and then each family member began to dabble in them in “their own ways.”
Jaden said the use of psychedelics not only helped open up his mind, but they also helped him have a deeper empathy for his siblings which has improved their relationship—calling that experience “profound” and “beautiful.”
“Siblings can argue so much and fight so much, and lord knows me and my siblings have done so much of that in the past,” he explained. “But the level of love and empathy that I can feel for them inside of the (psychedelic) experiences and outside of the experiences has been something that’s profound and beautiful,” USA Today reports.
Some studies show psychedelics like psilocybin, ayahuasca, LSD, and mescaline, boost emotional empathy and open-minded thinking when used in proper quantities and within safe settings, the media outlet reports. However, experts warn these drugs remain mostly illegal.
