Yara Shahidi, Grown-ish star and executive producer, is making grown-up business deals! Inking an exclusive overall deal with ABC Studios, Yara and the other half of her dynamic mother-daughter duo, Keri Shahidi, will launch their own production company, 7th Sun.
“I’m thrilled to be partnering with my home family, ABC Studios, in this exciting next chapter, alongside my family,” Yara said. “It’s exciting to add our production company to the roster of my peers and mentors who are also actively committed to sharing meaningful stories.”
Lead by NBCUniversal veteran Lajoie St. George, 7th Sun is slated to create and produce scripted TV series for cable, streaming and broadcast that “touch upon themes of history, heritage, culture, and joy.” ABC Studios President Jonnie Davis spoke on how proud he is to partner with the “incredibly talented” Yara Shahidi.
“We can’t wait to extend and expand our relationship with the incredibly talented Yara Shahidi, who has been a member of the family since black-ish,” Davis said. “When she’s not studying at Harvard and starring in our series ‘grown-ish,’ she’s mentoring and inspiring other young people, which makes us all feel like underachievers but also very proud that she’s part of our Studio.”
Yara is best known for her breakout role as oldest daughter Zoey Johnson on Kenya Barris’ Black-ish series and its spin-off, Grown-ish.
We are so happy for Yara and Keri and we can’t wait to see their upcoming projects!
