Bill Cosby is a free man.

In a shocking turn of events, the Cosby Show star was released from prison after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court vacated his 2018 conviction for his 2004 sexual assault of Andrea Constand. Per the court, Cosby, 83, was freed due to the violation of a “non-prosecution agreement” with his previous prosecutor, Bruce Castor, who agreed not to prosecute him in exchange for his testimony, CBS reports. Attorney Gloria Allred, who represented many of Cosby’s accusers, described his release as “devastating” for his victims.

“Despite the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s decision, this was an important fight for justice and even though the court overturned the conviction on technical grounds, it did not vindicate Bill Cosby’s conduct and should not be interpreted as a statement or a finding that he did not engage in the acts of which he has been accused,” Allred said in a statement.

Bruce Castor’s successor, District Attorney Kevin Steele, who allegedly violated the non-prosecution agreement by arresting Cosby in 2015, also made a statement following his release.

“I want to commend Cosby’s victim Andrea Constand for her bravery in coming forward and remaining steadfast throughout this long ordeal, as well as all of the other women who have shared similar experiences. My hope is that this decision will not dampen the reporting of sexual assaults by victims.”

Per CNN, Andrea Constand and her attorneys are currently reviewing the court’s decision to vacate Cosby’s 2018 conviction.
