Jay-Z’s got 99 problems but a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nomination ain’t one!
The Brooklyn-bred rapper is among this year’s sixteen Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees. Being nominated in the first year of his eligibility, if he’s inducted he’ll be the third solo lyricists to make it into the RRHOF next to the late Tupac and Notorious B.I.G, who were inducted after their deaths.
Joining Jay-Z in the list of first-time nominees are Mary J. Blige, Iron Maiden, Fela Kuti, Foo Fighters, the Go-Go’s, and recent Twitter diva Dionne Warwick who’s been eligible since 1988. Among the previously nominated are Rage Against the Machine, Kate Bush, New York Dolls and LL Cool J. Tina Turner and Carole King—both in the list of previous nominees—will potentially join Stevie Nicks as a multiple inductee if inducted. Chaka Khan has also been nominated before with six total noms under her belt—her third as a solo artist plus the three she racked up with Rufus.
To be nominated, each artist/band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of being nominated. As the ceremony will take place this Fall in Cleveland, the public will be able to cast their vote once a day on the Rock Hall website up until April 30th.
