The King Richard actor star just got slapped with a 10-year ban from The Oscars!
After several days of deliberation by The Academy’s 9,000 members and the Board of Governors, they concluded that although Will Smith will keep his Best Actor award, he’ll be banned from the prestigious award show for slapping Chris Rock.
The Academy does not condone violence of any form.
Tonight we are delighted to celebrate our 94th Academy Awards winners, who deserve this moment of recognition from their peers and movie lovers around the world.
In what will surely go down as the most controversial moment in pop culture, Will slapped Chris on stage at the Oscars for making a G.I. Jane joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, who suffers from a medical condition, alopecia.
Shortly after the slap heard around the world, Will accepted his Best Actor award for King Richard and gave a tearful speech about protecting his family. At first, The Fresh Prince seemingly made light of the confrontation with Chris by posting a playful Instagram video with Jada that was captioned, “Me ‘n @jadapinkettsmith got all dressed up to choose chaos.”
