Hugh Hefner died last week on September 27, 2017 and it’s no secret he’s already greatly missed. But don’t fret. Brett Ratner, the director of movies such as the Rush Hour series, has the rights to a biopic about the silk pajamas and smoking jacket donning Playboyfounder. Plus, he’s tapped Jared Leto to play Hugh Hefner.
“Jared is an old friend,” says Ratner, who will direct the film. “When he heard I got the rights to Hef’s story, he told me, ‘I want to play him. I want to understand him.’ And I really believe Jared can do it. He’s one of the great actors of today.”
Jared Leto never got a chance to meet Hugh Hefner, but the beautiful thing about Hefner was that we all felt like we knew him. According to the Hollywood Reporter:
Ratner had hoped to introduce Leto to the man he’d be playing on the big screen, but Hefner was in failing health and not greeting guests that day. But Ratner isn’t worried. “There’s enough footage on Hef out there that Jared will be able to get as much information as he wants,” he says.
