Vanessa Bryant—widow of the late Kobe Bryant—is not here for her mother’s “beyond hurtful” claims of their strained relationship. After her mother, Sofia Laine, said Vanessa kicked her out of her apartment and made her return a car in an explosive interview with Univision, Vanessa is setting the record straight.
“My husband and daughter passed away unexpectedly and yet my mom has the audacity to do an interview on TV talking negatively about me while shedding tears about a car and home that wasn’t in her name,” Vanessa exclusively told People.
She added that although she and her late husband “financially supported” her mother over the past 20 years and she continues to do so after Kobe’s death, her mother Sofia has “removed all her diamond jewelry, emptied her apartment” and “put the furniture in storage to appear as though she is without support.” Vanessa also said that her mom has not been present or “emotionally supportive” for her family after the unexpected passing of her husband Kobe, 41, and her 13-year-old daughter, Gianna—both of whom perished in a horrific helicopter crash along with seven other passengers in Calabassas on January 26.
