The 74th Emmy Awards hosted by Saturday Night Live’s Kenan Thompson kicked off last night and it did not disappoint! Not only did the night have some history-making wins, but it also had some head-scratching moments, epic reunions, and more!
As we’re sure you know by now, Sheryl Lee Ralph stole the show when she won her first-ever Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a comedy series for Abbott Elementary. This win is a record-breaker as Sheryl is the second black woman to win the award, next to Jackée Harry, who gave her a special shoutout!
The network originally wanted @thesherylralph to play Sandra on 227, but I got the part and won an Emmy for it.
Now, Sheryl joins me as the 2nd black woman in this category and deservedly so! 🎉 I’m so exited for her #Emmys win!

Sheryl’s Abbott Elementary co-star and TV sitcom creator Quinta Brunson also broke a record as the third black person, and second black woman, to win the writing comedy Emmy after Larry Wilmore for The Bernie Mac Show and Lena Waithe for Master of None. But when Quinta graced the stage to accept her award, Jimmy Kimmel laid on the stage floor in what was supposed to be a comedy bit, but caused major backlash as many accused him of stealing her shine!
Since Kenan was the host, many were hoping for a reunion with Kel and they got exactly what they were wishing for! The dynamic duo Kenan & Kel did a comedy bit for the awards show, along with Kumail Nanjiani, that brought on all the ’90s nostalgic vibes!
