For months, the former View co-host has been embroiled in a bitter court battle with her soon-to-be ex over financial responsibility for the child.
According to Lamar, the couple agreed to have a baby using his sperm and a donor’s eggs after it was determined Sherri’s eggs weren’t viable.
Midway through the surrogate’s pregnancy, Sherri – who has a nine-year-old son from a previous relationship – revealed she wanted a divorce in May 2014. Three months later, on August 5th, their son was born. At that time, the 47-year-old devout Christian claimed she was tricked into having the child and, since it wasn’t hers biologically, wanted no financial responsibility.
Lamar has had custody of the child since his birth.
Although Shepherd – who recently played the wicked stepmother in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella on Broadway – has yet to make an official statement following the court ruling, she appeared to be in great spirits celebrating her biological son Jeffrey’s “pre-birthday” at a restaurant in Harlem on Tuesday afternoon. While she didn’t refer to the paternity case specifically in her Instagram snap, Sherri did mention how Jeffrey was born premature and “if I can make it thru almost losing my child then NOTHING can be worse than that.”
