It’s that time of year again when People celebrates those who have made positive contributions to our world! As this year has proved to be one of the most challenging, this year’s People of the Year roster includes Regina King, Dr. Anthony Fauci, George Clooney, and Selena Gomez—all of whom will grace one of the four covers for their activism, philanthropic endeavors, and impact during this year’s pandemic.
In addition to Regina King’s monumental role in Watchmen and her directorial debut for One Night in Miami, the Emmy, Academy, and Golden Globe winner was honored for using her powerful platform to shed a light on police brutality and to get marginalized communities to the polls.
National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director and member of the White House coronavirus task force, Dr. Anthony Fauci, will grace one of four covers for his “life-saving leadership” and being “the doctor America needed in 2020,” People described. He was also praised for his impressive resume which includes aiding six presidents during some of this country’s most challenging times, including this year’s pandemic.
Not only did “Rare” songstress Selena Gomez have a No. 1 album this year, but she also launched a cooking show on HBO Max and raised over $100 million for mental health efforts. Additionally, she handed her social platform consisting of over 195 million followers over to Black Lives Matter activists in the wake of George Floyd’s death.
Last but not least, George Clooney, founder of Clooney Foundation for Justice, will grace one of the covers for his activism against political, social, and racial inequities. Following the protests for George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor, Clooney donated $500,000 to the Equal Justice Initiative and donated $1 million towards the coronavirus initiative.
