RAPPER LUPE FIASCO IS NOT HERE FOR ‘BLACK PANTHER’
Wednesday, Mar 21, 2018

Lupe Fiasco & Black Panther

Black Panther has made over $1 billion worldwide, spent 5 weeks at the top of the box office and has a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, but Lupe Fiasco is unimpressed.

The rapper has lashed out at the Marvel epic calling it average and overhyped.

“So Black Panther still falls in the category of being an okay film,” Fiasco said on Instagram Live. “I don’t think that the acting was like super amazing. Because one, I don’t think we’re used to seeing Black people on screen that much, and so when you do see a movie that’s all Black folks, this for me specifically, there’s a bias.”

The “Out of My Head” singer then backtracked a bit and blamed his indifference on the film on having seen it all before on the big screen,

“I mean I like Black Panther,” he added. ”I don’t necessarily like film too much these days simply because I think I’m of a generation I’m 36, so I was born in 82, and I’ve been able to see films be redone like entire genres or themes the films be redone so I was there for like the original Ghostbusters and then the Ghostbusters reboot right and then you get to see like all the whole cycle take place.”

Many could argue we’ve never seen anything like Black Panther before and that’s partly why it has become such a global phenomenon.

While Fiasco is completely entitled to his opinion, what do you think about his take on Black Panther?
