The Oscars are just around the corner ad we are going to do all we can to prepare you for February 22nd.   We are starting with the Best Lead Actress category. We’re still sad Jennifer Aniston didn’t make the cut, but there are 5 amazing actresses that did… so let’s dive in.

READ: Full list of Academy Awards Nominees

Two of the nominated actresses have won before.  They actually won the  first and only time they were nominated… while Julianne Moore has watched 4 other women win before instead of her. This 5th time is expected to be the charm!

Now, let’s dive in and find out more about each nominee:

  • Julianne Moore: She’s having a great year! Besides her nomination, she was also in 2014’s highest grossing film: Mockingjay: Part 1.  She has a list of fantastic credits: Magnolia, Boogie Nights, The Big Lebowski, Hannibal, The Kids Are All Right, The Lost World: Jurassic Park,  or her guest starring role on 30 Rock where she’s also acting opposite Alec Baldwin (who plays her husband in Still Alice). If you remember the 90s well, you might also recall her roles in Assassins opposite Sylvester Stallone and Antonio Banderas or Nine Months with Hugh Grant (though we’re guessing she’d rather you don’t).

  • Reese Witherspoon for Wild. You definitely know her from the Legally Blonde movies and the classics Sweet Home Alabama and Cruel Intentions. She won an Oscar before for the movie Walk the Line and  once guest starred on Friends as Rachel’s sister! Oh and course, she was once married to Ryan Phillipe.  He’s soon to be on an ABC drama, so we guess her career is going a little bit better!

  • Marion Cotillard for Two Days One Night. She has done a lot of French films, but she’s also been in a ton of American films: The Dark Knight Rises, Inception, Nine, Contagion and Anchorman 2.

  • Rosamund Pike for Gone Girl. You probably had no idea who she was before this movie came out. No worries, you will soon see her in a lot of stuff as Hollywood has definitely taken notice. You might remember her from Pride & Prejudice, Die Another Day, Doom or An Education.

  • Felicity Jones for The Theory of Everything. You probably also had no idea who she was before this. She was in The Amazing Spider Man 2 as Felicia Hardy, so maybe you remember her in that? Of course, she will definitely be getting lots of big film offers now as well.

Make sure to check back for our look at the other categories. Best of luck with your Oscar poll! (Tip: Do NOT bet against Julianne Moore in this category).
