There’s a great rift coming in the Oreo Camp, one that may shake the very pillars of snackdom. On one side of this rift, the traditionalists; on the other, red velvet cake fans-all because of the new Red Velvet Oreos.
Available for a limited time around Valentine’s Day, the crimson cookie features cream cheese-flavored filling in place of the signature “stuff” used in regular Oreos. This latest offering follows a growing trend of red velvet-flavored snacks. Red velvet, it seems, is having quite a time.
Of course, Oreo enthusiasts know special flavors and themes are nothing new for the sugary sandwich. Kids Kubby found 22 weird ones including Neapolitan, banana split and candy corn.
Still, the vermillion cookie will surely inspire great unrest. We can only pray that the same fate doesn’t await us should Oreo’s parent company Mondelez International, decide to unveil a green version for St. Patrick’s Day.
