Before her daughters Malia, 20, and, Sasha, 17, were born, Michelle gets real about having a miscarriage and the devastating emotions that ensued. She felt like she failed because she didn’t know “how common miscarriages were”—wishing other women had shared their stories to lift the stigma surrounding fertility issues, she reveals in new memoir Becoming. Instead of sitting in her own pain, she focused on self-care and marriage counseling with her husband Barack Obama. Check out the video clip below as Michelle shares her touching story.
