A White woman recently called the cops on a black family who was enjoying a barbecue at an Oakland park. While it was a clear incident of racism, the woman claimed it was because the family was in the incorrect place to use a charcoal grill and children were at risk because they could get injured by incorrectly disposed charcoal.
Unfortunately, this incident is only one of many where Black people have had the cops called on them for simply existing, i.e. Starbucks. While the woman is not facing any legal repercussions, she is facing internet repercussions. Black Twitter has turned the woman wearing a navy zip-up sweatshirt and black sunglasses into the “Crying Jordan” for White people.
The image of the woman has been photoshopped into several important moments of Black history including Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have A Dream” speech and Rosa Parks’ bus protest.
