While in the French Polynesia over New Year’s, Lindsay Lohan contracted a rare and untreatable virus called Chikungunya and Dish Nation has exclusively learned it has friends and family worried the Mean Girls actress may relapse while attempting to maintain the infection.

The virus — transmitted through mosquito bites — causes debilitating joint pain and can have side effects of fever, fatigue and rash.

“Friends and family are worried that if Lindsay tries to subside some of the side effects using pain killers, it may cause her to relapse,” a source close to the situation told Dish.

EXCLUSIVE: Lindsay Lohan’s Getting A New Step-Mom & Another Half-Sibling!

“She’s been working hard at building a respectable career again while in London, so the last thing she needs is an excuse to give in to her addictions.”

Furthermore, the insider says Lindsay, 28, is used to being the center of attention in her family and is hurt that her father Michael Lohan isn’t showing more concern for her.

“Michael cares about Lindsay. He always has and always will, but he knows this isn’t some life-threatening disease so he’s not dropping everything to run to her and that bothers her a bit,” the source said.

“But Michael just had a baby on New Year’s Eve day so he’s a little pre-occupied! Lindsay just feels like she’s been ditched for his ‘new’ family.

Michael’s second son with new wife Kate Major, Logan Michael Lohan, was born in Florida on Dec. 31 at 11:16 a.m. weighing in at 6lbs. 14oz.

“Landon is excited to be a big brother!!” Major exclaimed on her Facebook page.

“What a beautiful way to ring in 2015!”

Before leaving the United States for London to make her stage debut in David Mamet’s Speed-The-Plow in Oct. 2014, Lindsay was largely known for her run-ins with the law and rehab stints.

Last summer Lindsay completed her sixth rehab stay for issues with drugs and alcohol.

“It’s been nearly a year with no incidents for Lindsay and her friends and family are hoping it stays that way. Everyone wants the best for her,” the source added.

“She remains close with her mom Dina and her siblings, so they’ve been a great support system for her — in the best way they know how.”
