He’s known to be a gambler and this time Leonardo DiCaprio is waging on himself, in a big way.

The star allegedly made a wager with his mega-rich buddies — including BFF Tobey Maguire — for $500,000 that he’ll walk away with the Academy Award for his role in The Revenant.

TOO CUTE: Jacob Tremblay Says He’s The Reason Leonardo DiCaprio Won A SAG Award

“He figures this is the year! So he’s going to make it extra exciting by placing a massive bet on it,” says a source.

Leonardo’s already won the Golden Globe this year, SAG, BAFTA and Critics Choice movie award for Best Actor as well as numerous others, but it’s the coveted Oscar that he’s really after.

Despite being nominated five times since 1994; three for Best Actor, one for Best Supporting Actor, and one for Best Picture as a producer he still doesn’t have one on his mantlepiece.

“It’s not him trying to be egotistical, it’s just that he really feels like this has to be his time. So he made the bet at the beginning of awards season,” the source added.

“The only reason his friends are betting against him is for the fun of it all. Leo could walk away with about $2 million up if they all pay up! Although he’ll probably donate it if he wins anyway.”

The 41-year-old is up against Eddie Redmayne for The Danish Girl, Michael Fassbender for Steve Jobs, Bryan Canston for Trumbo and Matt Damon for his role in The Martian.

ICYMI: Leonardo DiCaprio Has 9 Lives

He’s currently predicted to win the prestigious award but with him set to shell out half a million dollars to each of his betting pals there’s a lot more at stake than just his pride.

And although he’s confident his harrowing performance will have him making an acceptance speech, he admits he’s often surprised by the outcome.

“The truth of the matter is that I’ve been in situations before where I’ve thought films or performances, either mine or others, should be either nominated, more adored by the public, or critics should revere it more,” Leo has said.
