It’s been 25 years since the boys of Fair Eastside High sang the school song in the bathroom during one of the most famous scenes in “Lean On Me” — and Dish Nation has exclusively reunited the gang!
In the dramatic 1989 film, Morgan Freeman plays inner city principal Joe Clark, who is tasked with reforming the gang and drug riddled high school. One of his first rules is that all students must learn the school song and be able to perform it on demand.
In a scene that will give you chills every time, Mr. Clark drags troublemaker Thomas Sams, played by Jermaine Hopkins, into the boys bathroom where he busts a group of guys known as the Eastside “Song Birds” hanging out during class and they’re forced to sing the school song.
And after 25 years, the boys have still got it!
Hopkins and “Song Birds” Michael Best, Steven Capers, Anthony Fuller and new member Delvis Damon popped into the Dish Nation set in Atlanta this week and sang the school song together for the first time in 25 years — and their harmony is mind-blowing.
Best, Capers and Fuller were actual Eastside High students at the time the movie was made.
Hopkins would go on to do the movie “Juice” with Tupac Shakur. Stay with Dish Nation for more on that…
