Fulfilling his promise to select a woman as his running mate, former Vice President and current Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has selected California Senator Kamala Harris as his VP in the 2020 Campaign, making her the first black woman to appear on a major ticket!
Kamala, Biden’s former rival during the Democratic primaries, will go up against Republican nominee and current president, Donald Trump. Joe shared the good news on Twitter.
Back when Kamala was Attorney General, she worked closely with Beau. I watched as they took on the big banks, lifted up working people, and protected women and kids from abuse. I was proud then, and I’m proud now to have her as my partner in this campaign.

I have the great honor to announce that I’ve picked @KamalaHarris — a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants — as my running mate.

A couple of VP contenders such as Stacey Abrams, Gretchen Whitmer and Atlanta Mayor Keisha Bottoms showed their support for Joe Biden’s final selection. Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, leader of the Congressional Black Caucus California Rep. Karen Bass, and former Barack Obama national security adviser Susan Rice were some of the few who were also vying for the VP spot.
Thrilled to support @KamalaHarris as next VP. I was honored to speak with @JoeBiden at length over the weekend and again today. His focus on reaching out to every corner of our country speaks to how he will lead us. I look forward to doing all I can for Team #BidenHarris!
