JENNIFER LOPEZ CLAPS BACK AT BODY SHAMERS
Wednesday, Jul 11, 2018

Don’t get it twisted, Jenny is still from the block and NOT here for your body shaming.

Believe it or not, Jennifer Lopez’s curves weren’t always accepted when she got her first big break in Hollywood, the Bronx beauty shares with Instyle. When it comes to her voluptuous figure, J. Lo spoke candidly about getting “…a lot of flak for it from people in the industry” from those who insisted she shed a few pounds and changed her look completely.

Can you believe that?!

Despite the backlash, the I’m Real singer embraced her curves at a time when the industry “was very much focused on size 0 models.”

“They’d say, ‘You should lose a few pounds,’ or ‘You should do this or do that.’ It finally got to the point that I was like, ‘This is who I am. I’m shaped like this.’ Everybody I grew up with looked like that, and they were all beautiful to me. I didn’t see anything wrong with it. I still don’t!”

J. Lo’s loving family, along with her practice of daily affirmations, helped shape the former Fly Girl’s positive body image, which has paved the way for women of all shapes and sizes.

“My mom and my grandmother were the ones who drilled into me, ‘This is how we are, and this is what’s beautiful.’ ”
