They are about to work together on the Fast and Furious spin-off film, but Jason Statham will be getting a leg up against The Rock.
Prop masters are prepping to give Jason shoe wedges to help him appear taller on screen when he battles and then teams up with the wrestler turned actor Dwayne Johnson
Camera operators are also working on shooting the pair at higher levels to alleviate the noticeable height difference.
The former WWE wrestling champ stands 6 feet 5 inches tall, while the one-time British diving competitor and 1990 Commonwealth Games participant is a little under 5 feet 10 inches.
The pair will start shooting in the spring, but the production team is concerned it would look “too uneven” to have the pair on screen together.
One insider revealed:
“It is all very hush hush at the moment, but Jason is going up in the world! The props teams are working on some shoes to give him a couple of inches to look an equal height to Dwayne. One of the team members joked that they needed to do something or it would look as odd as Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger did together when they appeared in Twins. Dwayne is physically such a large man, that they want to be careful for him not to overshadow Jason. We have heard word that there will be quite a few gags in the early scripts mentioning their physical shapes and muscular prowess. The camera teams have made a habit in the past of shooting their scenes a little higher up too, so that their height differential is not too obvious and that will come into play again. Thee team is really excited to working with Dwayne and Jason and there is anticipation that this movie could lead to many more.”
The plot of the new film will focus on Hobbs (Dwayne) and Shaw (Jason) setting out on their own adventure.
The characters formed a unique bromance in this summer’s Fate of the Furious movie.
It is well know that their spin-off has caused tension as Universal have pushed back the ninth Fast And Furious film until 2020.
That decision sent cast member Tyrese Gibson into a frenzy. For several months he has expressed his anger at Dwayne.
Tyrese, who plays Roman Pearce in the mega-successful franchise, blasted him on Twitter saying: “Congratulations to @TheRock and your brother in law aka 7 bucks producing partner @hhgarcia41 for making the fast and the furious franchise about YOU.”
Meanwhile home grown action star Jason revealed that he believes these actions films are “stupid.” This summer Jason also ridiculed his own hit career, despite his movies grossing over a billion dollars.
He told Sirius XM Radio: “I am not an actor really – I used to work jewelery and pinch jewelery on the streets; I was a sportsman for years and I am not really some thespian that can adopt and chameleon himself into different roles. I just got into this by being at the right place at the right time.”
He continued: “A lot of the characters I play are pretty similar in some ways, because I can do all that. So there tends to be a physicality with those roles and I tend to stick to it.”
