Last night’s 92nd Academy Awards were not only about the awards, it was also filled with history-making moments, emotional speeches and even a surprise performance.
Below are the best moments!
Janelle Monae came alive at the top of the show with a sizzlin’ performance. Paying homage to the Oscar-nominated film “A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood,” Janelle sang a shocking rendition of “Won’t You Be My Neighbor” that made reference to the “Oscars So White” movement. She then proceeded with her performance that included dancers dressed like the films that were snubbed, i.e., like Dolemite Is My Name and and Queen & Slim, and would later be joined on stage by Billy Porter.
Brad Pitt got political during his acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actor for Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood. He suggested that Quentin Tarantino direct an alternate-reality version of the Senate impeachment where “In the end, maybe the adults do the right thing,” Brad dished.
Eminem made a surprise return to The Oscars, 18 years post his win for Best Original Song win for “Lose Yourself.” The Music To Be Murdered By rapper took us back to 8 Mile with a nostalgic performance of the song.
Cynthia Erivo, who will soon portray Aretha Franklin in a National Geographic limited series, made the world “Stand Up” with her riveting Harriet performance.
Bong Joon-ho’s thriller Parasite made history as the first foreign-language film to claim Best Picture, in addition Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Foreign Language film.
