Tiffany Haddish might be ready for a lot of things, but working for free isn’t one of them! The Girls Trip star revealed that she turned down an opportunity to host the 2021 Grammys next because they wouldn’t cover any costs, including payment for time, wardrobe, and makeup. After Tiffany put the Recording Academy on blast during her interview with Variety, Harvey Mason Jr., Interim President and CEO, apologized to Tiffany—describing the Grammy’s decision to not cover costs was “wrong” and in “poor taste”.
“To me, that was wrong,” Mason said. “I’m frustrated by that decision. It was a lapse in judgement, it was in poor taste and it was disrespectful to the creative community. I’m part of the creative community. I know what that feels like, and it’s not right.”
Tiffany, who’s nominated for best comedy album, explained that all costs associated with the Grammys gig would have to come out of her pocket. “The exposure is amazing but I think I have enough. I appreciate you guys asking. And as much as I appreciate the honor of being nominated, that’s not OK,” Tiffany explained to Variety—adding that the Grammy’s decision was downright “disrespectful.”
