Hip-Hop is being passed down from generation to generation… through baby names!
BabyCenter.org notes that “rappers aren’t just making good music, they’re taking center stage as cultural icons, philanthropists, and role models.” Because of this, names of famous rappers are becoming more popular baby names.
The name Chance increased by 21% in popularity, which can be linked to Chance the Rapper, loved for his charity work in Chicago. Kendrick Lamar, who is also no stranger to philanthropy, may have had something to do with the name Kendrick increasing by 9% in popularity.
These two aren’t the only two hip-hop related names increasing in popularity. Jay increased by 3%, Dre is up 40% and Queen by 41%. One can assume this is due to Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, and Queen Latifah.
