Award season has officially begun as the Golden Globe Awards nominations have been announced.


Guillermo Del Toro’s The Shape of Water leads the film nominations with seven, while HBO’s Big Little Lies tops the TV side with a total of six.

Denzel Washington will battle it out against Tom Hanks, Daniel Day-Lewis, Gary Oldman and newcomer Timothee Chalamet for Best Actor in a Drama.

While Hollywood queen Meryl Streep takes on Jessica Chastain, Michelle Williams, Sally Hawkins and Frances McDormand for Best Actress in a Drama.

Other standouts include Mary J. Blige‘s  two nods for her work in Mudbound, Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Song (“Mighty River”).

Blige will have tough competition in the song catergory as she vies against fellow chart toppers Mariah Carey, Nick Jonas and Miguel.

The Golden Globes, hosted by Seth Meyers, air Sunday, January 7th on NBC.
