It looks like SpaceX founder Elon Musk and Grimes’ relationship won’t be going to infinity and beyond after all.

Elon Musk confirmed that he and Grimes, whom he reportedly started dating in May 2018, are “semi-separated”  but “still love each other” and “are on great terms,” Page Six reports. As Elon’s work is based in Texas and Grimes’s in LA, Musk revealed that distance is mostly responsible for the strain on their relationship.

“It’s mostly that my work at SpaceX and Tesla requires me to be primarily in Texas or traveling overseas and her work is primarily in LA. She’s staying with me now and Baby X is in the adjacent room,” Elon shared.

Elon and Grimes, who were spotted together at this year’s Met Gala, welcomed son X Æ A-Xii aka “X” on May 4th of last year. Grimes recently opened up about motherhood and not identifying with the title “mother”—explaining that her son calls her by her first name because he can sense her “distaste” for the word mother.
