Actor Alfonso Ribeiro, who played Will Smith’s preppy and lovable cousin Carlton Banks on the 90’s sitcom refuses to revisit the character that made him famous.
Ribeiro gave Dish Nation the exclusive scoop that we may never see the infamous Carlton dance again or a “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” remake.
“I would say that’s probably very unlikely,” Alfonso told Dish Nation at the Screen Actors Guild Foundation’s 5th Annual “Actors Fore Actors” Golf Classic. “Just due to the fact that we lost the great James Avery (Uncle Phil). And we felt like we did something amazing. Why try to redo that? Why try to recreate something that was magical when it happened. I think we’re all content with letting our record stand.”
What about the persistent rumors that a spin-off show featuring the character’s children with Will’s son Jaden Smith starring as a new generation Fresh Prince?
“Certainly anything is possible,” Alfonso continued. “It’s never really been talked about. But why try to recreate something that I think we did such a great job doing? It’s wonderful that people still love the show and watch the show, but let it live in the past.”
Someone who would love to see a new version of the classic series is actress Tatyana Ali, who played Ashley Banks for the six year run of the show.
“I still keep in touch with Will and it would be great to work with him again,” Tatyana said in 2011. “The whole cast including Will just talked about doing a reunion. I think everyone would be into it, it just depends on everyone’s schedule.”
“The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” launched the career of Will Smith and is still shown on TV to this day.
