CNN journalist Don Lemon called out ‘Black Hollywood’ A-listers such as Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry,Ā Diddy, Tracee Ellis Ross, Anthony Anderson, and more, for not doing enough in the fight for justice surrounding George Floyd’s death. Lemon expressed frustration with “wealthy celebrities” who are “sitting in their mansions and doing nothing,” while others are on the frontlines. He also called out those who don’t want to speak up because it might hurt their “brand.”
āA lot of people I ask to come on this show, to talk about this, such as wealthy celebrities, wealthy political people, say, āI canāt do it. Iām mad. I donāt want people to see me mad. It might hurt my business.” Lemon added “I hate that. You are your brand. Step up, people. Step up, Black Hollywood.”
Don went on to name some of his celebrity friends, encouraging them to show more of a presence to protestors and the Black Lives Matter cause.
“By me calling out your name, it doesnāt mean Iām calling you out. It means I love you,” Lemon said. “It means I love you, Oprah.ā “I want to see youĀ Tracee Ellis Ross. I want to see you Tyler Perry. I want to see youĀ Drake,” Lemon continued. “I want to see you my friend,Ā Anthony Anderson. I love you ā¦ I want to seeĀ Diddy out there.”Ā
