Daniel Radcliffe is still kicking up a stink about one Harry Potter memento that he doesn’t want to treasure – toilet paper with his face imprinted on it!
Thanks to some unfortunate marketing decisions, in 2011 the boy wizard’s bespectacled mug graced the undignified, but necessary tissue paper product in Asia.
Dish Nation caught up with Radcliffe while promoting his Broadway play, The Cripple of Inishmaan. The actor admitted he’s still down in the dumps that marketing executives decided to green light the Harry Potter bathroom essential.
“I have seen lots of strange marketing spin-offs, but the most weird is that my face is on toilet paper,” Daniel told a member of the Dish Nation team. “But I haven’t seen it. And I don’t know if that is much of a compliment.”
When asked what he thought of images of stars like David Beckham and the members of One Direction popping up on condoms without their permission, Daniel said that would be a step too far.
“It’s not the strangest merchandising gift from a movie. The guys from ‘American Pie’ had their faces on condoms. I know you can get Obama condoms, although they haven’t done that for us yet. And I don’t think they should.”
Warner Brothers made millions from marketing dolls, wands, carpets, clothes and games over the past decade and Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida is about to open The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
Radcliffe added: ” I am not precious about it at all. And I had nothing to do with the merchandising and marketing of the film. My feeling is that If you want to make me into a Lego, go ahead. An actor is involved in their performance, but not that side of things. I felt lucky to have had the job.”
