EAT IT! BRITISH STARS TELL AMERICA WHAT FOOD THEY’RE MISSING OUT ON
Thursday, Nov 27, 2014

They don’t celebrate Thanksgiving like we do, but British people sure have an opinion on what Americans should be eating.

Dish Nation caught up with a gaggle of Brits on the red carpet recently and asked them what their favorite foods from Europe are that should be imported, and what Americans are doing wrong food-wise.

Help Dish Nation Feed America!

While at the Jaguar Britannia Awards in Los Angeles last month, Dish caught up with actress Jane Seymour, So You Think You Can Dance judge Nigel Lythgoe, About Time star Tom Hughes, Doctor Who beauty Jenna Coleman, Episodes star Stephen Mangan and actress Celia Imrie.

As expected, the British stars knocked American tea — but also suggested a few sweet treats.

“Maltesers and Twiglets,” Seymour immediately said.

“Maltesers are our versions of the malt ball, but forget malt balls, they don’t even come close… And Twiglets these strange looking twigs kind of savory things that have Marmite on them which is something Americans hate, but I love.

“When I put them on my table in America when I come back from England everyone wolfs them down.”

Lythgoe opted for an odd combination joking that his favorite chocolate is healthy.

“Cadbury’s chocolate, man! Cadbury’s and Wall’s pork sausages. Cadbury’s chocolate is made with vegetables rather than the cocoa bean, I believe,” he joked.

“Pork sausages, well they’re very, very healthy. Especially with Heinz Baked Beans.”

Coleman seconded Seymour’s sentiment about Twiglets but added another sweet treat to the mix.

“A good old fashioned cup of tea. Twiglets,” she said before realizing her purse was stamped with the name of her favorite biscuit — that’s a cookie, to Americans.

“Custard Creams! Custard creams are what you get put out at tea breaks,” she said.

“It’s basically a biscuit with custard filling…it’s very famous, it’s its own kind of biscuit.”

But it was all about the tea with the British.

“Tetley Tea, it’s the best tea in the world. Tetley’s Tea is the only tea to drink,” Hughes told Dish.

“It just warms the heart, warms the cockles.”

Best Exotic Marigold Hotel star Imrie wasn’t picky about the type of tea — she just wants it hot!

“A good cup of tea they need to work on,” she chimed in.

“Get the water hot enough. That’s all we ask,” Mangan added. “Boiling water.”
