The long-awaiting second season of the Regency-era Netflix series Bridgerton has finally dropped, but we can’t help but miss the debonair heartthrob and Duke of Hastings, Regé-Jean Page.
Many Bridgerton fans wondered how the Shonda Rhimes-created series would address Regé-Jean Page’s absence in the sophomore season since he played a such significant role in the first. If you recall, Regé-Jean played Simon Basset who was romantically linked to Phoebe Dynevor’s character, Daphne Bridgerton.
Surprisingly, season two doesn’t address Rege-Jean’s obvious exit at all. Instead, Daphne makes reference to her husband [Simon] and their baby, Augie, but unfortunately, Simon Basset doesn’t make a cameo, TV Line reports. According to the outlet, Bridgerton’s executive producer Chris Van Dusen confirmed the series would reference the Duke of Hastings, which mirrored Phoebe’s sentiments during her interview with The Wrap in June 2021.
In April 2021, the Bridgerton Instagram page announced Rege-Jean’s departure from the hit series with a heartfelt letter penned by the series’ infamous tea-spiller, Lady Whistledown. The announcement said although the series would miss Regé-Jean’s presence onscreen, he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family.
