If I said what I said was a person, it would be Brian McKnight.
The “Back at One” R&B crooner broke his silence on the deadbeat dad allegations and accusations he only claims his kids with his current wife, Leilani. In a nearly six-minute YouTube video, Brian addressed not posting about his biological kids, noting a “mutual” estranged and conflicted relationship, mostly about money, as the reason. He addressed the defamation of character and breach of contract lawsuit his biological daughter Brianna filed against him a few years ago, which he said was settled out of court under the condition he wasn’t required to admit to any wrongdoing or publicly apologize to her.
He also mentioned Instagram posts made by biological kids Brianna and Brian back in 2019 that accused him of abandoning them—calling the narrative “false” and an irrevocable action that not only led him to change his will the next day, but also to permanently end his relationship with them. In closing, he said he unapologetically names his infant son Brian, with his wife Leilani, as his true legacy.
A couple of weeks ago, social media slammed the singer for posting a seemingly “petty” post about his stepdaughter making him a “Girl Dad” and being the “best daughter ever” when he has four adult biological children, including a daughter. Additionally, social media sleuths called Brian out for his Instagram bio that says he’s a husband to his current wife Leilani McKnight, and father to his stepchildren Julia, Jack, and Kekoa Matteo, and son Brian Kainoa Makoa he shares with his wife, with no mention of his four biological kids—three sons Brian Jr, Niko, Clyde, and daughter Brianna—he had from his previous relationships.
#DishFam, what do you think about Brian’s statements about the drama with his biological kids?
