WHY ‘BATMAN & ROBIN’ IS GEORGE CLOONEY’S MOST IMPORTANT MOVIE
Monday, Jun 11, 2018

Holy career awakening, Batman!

George Clooney starred as Batman in the 1997 installment of the franchise led by Joel Schumacher. Clooney’s debut would be Schumacher’s final Batman movie and for a good reason. Batman & Robin was ripped to shreds by critics. The Wall Street Journal’s Joe Morgenstern said, “Of all modern Batmans, George Clooney bears the closest physical resemblance to the comic-book hero, but there isn’t much to say about his performance because there isn’t much performance to discuss.”

Not all was lost though! George Clooney revealed the movie served as a wake-up call for him.

“Up until that moment, I was an actor only concerned with finding work. After the failure of that film creatively, I understood that I needed to take control of the films I made, not just the role. My next three films were Out of Sight, Three Kings and O Brother, Where Art Thou?”

Have you ever made a “necessary” mistake?
