Sources close to Aretha Franklin have reported on the singer’s condition, saying she is “gravely ill” and surrounded by loved ones in Detroit. Tom Joyner, a close friend of Franklin’s, shared that she has been in hospice for a week, The Detroit News reports.
The 76-year-old-singer announced her retirement in February 2017, followed by a performance in June where she asked fans to “keep me in your prayers.” She canceled a few tour performances over the past few months per her doctor’s request. It’s been rumored that Aretha has battled pancreatic cancer since 2010, a claim she denied in a 2011 interview with Access Hollywood.
