Newlywed Angelina Jolie dated model Jenny Shimizu 19 years ago, but the pair’s connection was so deep that it’s never really gone away, especially for Shimizu.
The famed Calvin Klein model married her fiancé avant-garde fashion guru and brand consultant Michelle Harper, in a private wedding last week, not long after Jolie married her long-time partner Brad Pitt. And while Shimizu knew it was a long shot, she extended an invite to Jolie once she’d heard that she and Pitt had finally tied the knot. But Jolie respectfully declined.
“Angie and I have so much history. And now that she and Brad are married, I figured it couldn’t hurt to invite her even though I knew she was probably too busy with her own life to come,” Shimizu said, according to a friend.
Jolie and Shimizu fell in love instantly on the set of the 1996 indie “Foxfire.” The duo’s mad love affair has been well documented, including by Jolie herself, who told a lesbian magazine in 1997, “I would probably have married Jenny if I hadn’t married my [first] husband (Johnny Lee Miller).”
“Jenny and Angie had an incredibly deep connection that’s still there. Now that they’re settled with their current partners Jenny would have loved it if Angie and Brad had shared in her special day with Michelle. They’re all such really good, cool people,” said the source.
Shimizu extended the last-minute invite to Jolie along with well wishes for a beautiful life with Pitt and the kids. And Jolie, while honored to receive the invite, respectfully declined but sent love back to Shimizu on her marriage.
“It’s not like I wanted her to walk me down the aisle or anything, but it would have been a really cool thing if she’d come,” Shimizu said, according to the source.
