AMANDA GORMAN, AUTHOR & YOUNGEST INAUGURAL POET, MAKES ‘HERSTORY’ AS HER BOOKS TOP BEST SELLER LISTS
Thursday, Jan 21, 2021
After delivering her passionate poem “The Hill We Climb” during yesterday’s Inauguration, Amanda Gorman— 22-year-old author, and the youngest inaugural poet—climbs the Amazon and Barnes & Noble’s bestseller lists in less than 24 hours!
I AM ON THE FLOOR MY BOOKS ARE #1 & #2 ON AMAZON AFTER 1 DAY! Thank you so much to everyone for supporting me and my words. As Yeats put it: “For words alone are certain good: Sing, then”
Inspired by historical speeches from Abraham Lincoln and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and even last week’s insurrection at the Capitol, Amanda said she wanted to send “a message of hope and unity” she shared with “CBS This Morning.” Additionally, Gorman—who used to have a speech impediment—took a less traditional approach to master the art of delivering flawless speeches by reciting the song Aaron Burr, Sir, from the musical “Hamilton.”
Hillary Clinton, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and many more shared their praises for the young poet, including Oprah Winfrey who gifted her with the ring and earrings she wore at the Inauguration, and Barack Obama who said her poem “more than met the moment.”
On a day for the history books, @TheAmandaGorman delivered a poem that more than met the moment. Young people like her are proof that “there is always light, if only we’re brave enough to see it; if only we’re brave enough to be it.” pic.twitter.com/mbywtvjtEH
