Alec Baldwin speaks out about the tragic prop gun incident that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, and injured director, Joel Souza. After Alec accidentally discharged a prop gun on the set of the western film Rust, Halyna was airlifted to the hospital where she died and Joel was treated and later released. Baldwin took to Twitter to share his remorse over the tragic event.
“There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours,” he wrote. “I am fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”

Baldwin, who tweeted that he’s “fully cooperating with the police investigation,” was questioned by the Santa Fe Sherriff Department shortly after the accident occurred on Thursday around 1:50 pm. While IATSE said the prop gun contained a “live single round,” the investigators “haven’t even begun the forensics” and did not confirm that claim to be true, Deadline reports. No charges or arrests have been filed.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Halyna and we wish Joel a speedy recovery.
