Last night was the biggest fashion event of the year, the annual Met Gala! As this year’s theme was “In America: The Lexicon of Fashion” which pays tribute to American style, celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, Lil Nas X, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello, and more, showed up in America’s best—but did they understand the assignment? You be the judge!
In true Kim K fashion, Kim Kardashian donned an all-black Balenciaga ensemble from head to toe, which included a head covering, gloves, a long pleated train with a slick ponytail to match—much like her Donda listening party and New York Fashion Week looks.
Lil Nas X shimmered in not one but three gold ensembles designed by Donatella Versace. He served up royalty vibes in a regal gold ornate cape with a train, just beneath was a gold suit of armor, and his last look was a gold bodycon jewel-encrusted jumpsuit.
Ciara glistened in her hubby Russell Wilson’s Seattle Seahawks jersey transformed into an elegant and shimmering Peter Dundas gown, equipped with a bedazzled football clutch and Russell’s SuperBowl ring.
Some of the most fashionable celebrity couples also came out to play in their Met Gala ensembles. Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello stepped out in a young and flirty Michael Kors look—Camila in a fun purple gown while Shawn went shirtless under a leather blazer.
One of Met Gala’s historically best-dressed celebrities, Rihanna, ripped the red carpet alongside her beau, A$AP Rocky, in their first red carpet debut as a couple. Rihanna served up a mix of uptown and downtown vibes in an edgy Balenciaga couture overcoat with a matching hat and a bedazzled headpiece just underneath. A$AP complimented Rihanna’s look by adding a pop of color in a quilt-inspired look by ERL.
Other celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, Taraji P. Henson, Frank Ocean, Kendall Jenner, Naomi Osaka, Keke Palmer, Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin, and many more were also in attendance in American-style.
