THE 7 MUST-SEE MOMENTS FROM THE SAG AWARDS

The SAG Awards may honor actors, but this year’s ceremony was lit by all the powerful & emotional acceptance speeches.

While top stars like Viola Davis, Denzel Washington, Emma Stone and Taraji P. Henson scored big wins, it was the politics of the day that took center stage.

Here are the biggest moments of the night.

1. Ashton Kutcher set the precedent for the night as the first presenter by saying: “Hello to everyone watching at home, and in airports, that belong in my America.”

2. The cast of Orange Is the New Black won for Outstanding Cast in a Comedy Series and was the epitome of #squadgoals. Taylor Schilling reiterated the Netflix hit’s strong stance for diversity by saying, “telling stories that show what unites us is stronger than the forces that seek to divide us.”

3. Everyone loves Dolly Parton! The country queen brought the house down as she introduced the Lifetime Achievement Award to her good friend and 9 to 5 co-star Lily Tomlin. Welcome to Dollywood!

4. In what was arguably the most emotional moment of the night, Mahershala Ali won Best Supporting Actor for Moonlight and sent a strong message for tolerance as he described his conversion to Islam.

5. Fences swept with a Best Actor win for Denzel Washington and Best Supporting Actress for Viola Davis. Now can we just agree to put them together in everything?!

6. Hidden Figures won for Outstanding Cast of a Motion Picture and Taraji P. Henson nailed down the film’s message. “This story is about what happens when we put our differences aside and we come together as a human race. We win. Love wins. Every time.” Preach Cookie, Preach!

7. But THE moment of the night belongs to Winona Ryder‘s face.  While her Netflix show Stranger Things won Outstanding Cast in a Drama Series, she snatched all the trophies with those cuckoo facial expressions. Watch and get your life!
