‘Tis the season for giving to those less fortunate, and one Wichita teenager is making it her mission to collect 2,000 pairs of shoes for the non-profit organization Soles4Souls, which helps to fight poverty by donating shoes to those in need.

GIVING BACK: Send A Special Little Girl A Christmas Card

Andover High School student Amelia Flores, 17, wanted to give back to the organization after they helped her extended family during the tragic 2005 Hurricane Katrina.

“I felt like this was a way to give back to them and say thank you,” Amelia told her local paper, The Wichita Eagle.

At the beginning of month, Amelia had amassed a collection of nearly 1,000 pairs of shoes and Dish Nation wants YOU to help her reach her goal of 2,000 by December 18.

“People were super willing to give their shoes,” she said about expanding her initiative from 200 pairs to 2,000. “So I figured why not.”

DISH NATION Is Helping To Feed America

If you’re local, new and used shoes can be dropped off at Andover Dillons, Andover State Bank, Andover High School, Andover Middle School, Andover Central High School, Andover Central Middle School, Cottonwood Elementary School, Martin Elementary School and Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.

Soles4Souls has distributed more than 26 million pairs of shoes to 127 countries since their inception in 2006.

UPDATE: Kim Kardashian is on board! The mother to new baby Saint West tweeted early on Thursday morning (while breastfeeding!) that she saw our segment on Dish Nation and along with hubby Kanye West, they want to help Amelia reach her goal of collecting shoes for Soles4Souls.
